On Saturday morning D was mulling over the need for some protection for the rapidly expanding veggie growing zone in our backyard.
D had worked out how much netting we would need and priced it online and we were planning to place our order.
By Sunday afternoon we were in the store shed of a local Hunter Valley vineyard loading over 400 square meters of redundant netting into our boot like crazy Carnies. We were so excited!
Not only was buying it secondhand a huge economical saving, we loved the fun had while collecting it. The internal buzz of negotiating a too-good-to-be-true price, the amusement of attempting to stuff all 400 square metres of it into our modestly sized boot, the laughter driving away looking at each other in shock and sheer wonder of needing something one day, and provision in the very best way the next.
The sun isn't always shining here, it's not one of those stories. There is day and night, spring and winter in every life. Both of us feel that we have recently emerged from a very wintery season and I am amazed at how heightened our appreciation for so many seemingly small things has become through the process.
'Make hay while the sun shines', an over used clique but a profound one. Cherish the days where you find not a cloud in the sky. Those seemingly perfect sunny days will build in you the strength and perseverance to make it through the next season of rain.
