• November Dreamin'

Another spring week has come and gone, the deciduous trees are all fully awake, the jacaranda tree is blooming.  The glow of the festive season has appeared on the horizon and the release date for Brooke Fraser's fourth album (Brutal Romantic) has rolled in.  But, most excitingly, our hydrangeas are in bloom!

I am all in when it comes to these shrubs, I can't explain the attraction but it's a strong one.  We have two rows of them, five in the front yard and nine out the back, and all fourteen of them are flowering at the moment - my heart is full of beautiful mop heads!  The tiny hot pink one was a house warming gift from KJ (pretty isn't it?).

And, for anyone wondering about little number three, our willie wagtail friend that didn't have the best start to life outside the nest; he is ALIVE!  All three brothers and sisters, along with their parents have been back to play every day this week after disappearing for the first week of life after nest.  The baby wagtails have the raspiest little chirp, it's the cutest thing!

An extremely unexpected thing has also happened in our infant orchid this week, our Gala apple tree has immaculately conceived!  The cross pollinator we recently planted for it is still very young and not yet flowering, so we are a little befuddled by this lone apple.

D was a non fruit eater when we met.  I found this out in an awkward "here, I made this post meal kiddy splash pool sized fruit platter for you" moment and he became a bit of an alien to me (who doesn't eat fruit?) and my mango-for-dinner-ness became just as alien to him, we were officially not compatible in the fruit department - completely incomfruitible.  But surprisingly D will eat anything we grow here (even the fruit), meaning I now have to share my strawberries which, when they came in punnets were completely safe in the fridge for days.  Needless to say, I will also be sharing our first home grown apple in the coming months.

In poultry news, Miss Pippa has had a sudden and violent hormone shift, going from being super-mum to I'm-going-to-kill-you-mum overnight, and her poor little chicks are now terrified of her.  She did start laying again though, and I have to admit it's nice having our reliable 'egg plant' back.

We bought some more trees too, we had agreed we wouldn't - not till next year, but we didWith a sale on at a local nursery it was hard to resist getting the last three trees to line what will one day be our driveway.  There are currently thirteen leighton greens on one side of the driveway and with our new additions, five crepe myrtles on the other.  It'll be a lush fuchsia pink 'Welcome Home' every day of summer in a few years time.  Can't wait!

I hope things are blooming beautifully wherever you are this week and you're enjoying watching the world around you grow.

Happy mid November everyone!
